Of all the different types of flooring material, hardwood flooring is one of the most striking you can choose. It comes in a range of styles and colors, and there is almost certainly one to suit any kind of surrounding decoration. When choosing hardwood flooring the main choice that needs to be made when installing wood flooring is whether to go for natural wood or a synthetic type. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and the type you chose will depend on things such as the amount of budget available and your personal preferences of design.

Natural wood flooring usually has a more narrow range of colors than the laminate types, due to the fact that nature doesn’t mix too many colors! Still, there are a good range available, with pine (for a light touch) and oak (for a darker touch) being among the more popular. The disadvantages of natural wood flooring include the expense, and the fact that it is usually a case of having a professional take care of the installation.

Laminate flooring on the other hand can usually be done on a DIY basis, unless the room happens to be of a very odd shape. Mostly the wood is supplied in interlocking planks, which then need only be glued with a special adhesive. And laminate flooring is undoubtedly cheaper than natural wood, and does have a massive range of styles, with everything from pine through to walnut and more exotic species such as cherry.

Whatever choice you end up making, the main thing to remember is that the flooring style will affect the whole look of the room, so choose with care or you may regret it later
